We lost a dear friend to the tennis world who was laid to rest today at the Star of David Memorial Gardens in North Lauderdale, Florida. Shelly was a dearly loved mother, sister, friend, player and advocate who fought so hard for so many and always for what she believed in. My deepest thoughts go out to the Solomon/Heller families and friends.
I was fortunate enough to be her friend. We talked about education, law and tennis. She loved the game. We even played in the USTA National 30's Mixed Doubles event at the Lauderdale Tennis Club last year. I told her we'd play just for fun... No expectations, let's just go out there and give it our best shot. She was a bit nervous as she hasn't played in a tournament in years, but nevertheless, we gave it our all.
Shelly, your fight and determination has changed so many people's lives and I'm proud of your accomplishments. You will truly be missed my friend!
